Drawing on sixteenth-century cartographic evidence, ancient maps, and the fragmentary records of Iberian seamanship, Collingridge argues that the discovery of Australia was not an English achievement but a Portuguese and Spanish one, predating the celebrated voyages by over a century. Collingridge, himself an artist and historian of formidable breadth, presents his argument with the precision of a scholar and the passion of an advocate, weaving together cartographic analysis, linguistic evidence, and historical record to construct an irresistible case. A work of enduring significance in the historiography of the Pacific and the Age of Discovery, it challenges readers to reconsider the very foundations of colonial history — and to ask who truly first set eyes upon the great southern land.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Secondhand Stock","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50736242557147,"sku":"2026100010478-SECONDHAND","price":12.0,"currency_code":"AUD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0523\/7646\/9701\/files\/d421f944-4311-429f-93a5-18dac6f46287.png?v=1792122671","url":"https:\/\/bookgrocer.com\/products\/2026100010478-secondhand-the-first-discovery-of-australia-and-new-guinea","provider":"Book Grocer","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
