This rare private publication details the founding and growth of J. B. Were \u0026amp; Son, the Melbourne-based stockbroking firm established by Jonathan Binns Were, tracing its remarkable 115-year journey from its humble origins in 1839 through the turbulent currents of Australian economic and social history.\n\nMore than a corporate record, this volume stands as a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit that shaped colonial and post-Federation Australia, illuminating the intricate relationships between private enterprise, public institutions, and the nation's financial markets. Issued exclusively for the firm's clients and associates, it was never intended for public sale — a fact that renders it a genuinely scarce and fascinating primary source for any serious student of Australian business history.
