Covering a richly storied corner of Somerset, the map charts the landscapes surrounding Bath, Wells, Glastonbury, Radstock, and Shepton Mallet as they appeared in the early nineteenth century, offering an unparalleled window into the pre-industrial topography of this ancient region.

Beyond its practical utility as a geographical document, this reprint holds immense value for historians, archaeologists, genealogists, and enthusiasts of the English countryside, preserving with exacting fidelity the survey data gathered by the Board of Ordnance in an era before railways reshaped the nation. The David & Charles reprint series — of which this is a distinguished volume — transformed access to these rare originals, allowing scholars and curious readers alike to study the contours, settlements, and road networks of a vanished England. One glance at the dense network of lanes and hamlets captured within this sheet is enough to leave the reader wondering what other secrets the land still holds.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0523/7646/9701/files/f2e69008-c65b-469c-85ba-500c5d5b1bd0.png?v=1792122998
https://bookgrocer.com/products/2026100010691-secondhand-reprint-of-the-first-edition-of-the-one-inch-ordnance-survey-of-england-and-wales-bath-wells-sheet-76
