First issued in the post-war years, the 1950 edition captures the enduring spirit, humour, and hardship of those who served in Australia's armed forces, drawing from the collective memory of a nation still processing the aftermath of global conflict. Each contribution — whether a darkly comic yarn from the frontline or a quietly elegiac poem — reflects the authentic voice of the Australian soldier, sailor, and airman with unflinching candour.\n\nMore than a simple miscellany, this volume stands as a significant cultural document, illustrating the way ordinary Australians understood and narrated their own wartime experience at a pivotal moment in the country's history. The Australian War Memorial's stewardship of these accounts lends the collection an authoritative gravity, preserving voices that might otherwise have faded from the historical record. For students of Australian military history, literary culture, or the broader human cost of twentieth-century warfare, this volume poses a quietly haunting question: what does it truly mean to remember?\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Secondhand Stock","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50572485099739,"sku":"2026100011526-SECONDHAND","price":25.0,"currency_code":"AUD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0523\/7646\/9701\/files\/da918bab-b061-42f0-b357-5afd4bcad2a4.png?v=1791166619","url":"https:\/\/bookgrocer.com\/products\/2026100011526-secondhand-as-you-were-1950","provider":"Book Grocer","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
