Kindly note that Book Grocer specialises in remainder books, you can read more about what that means here. Because of this, some of our books may be in less than pristine condition. However, our fulfilment team does their best to check every book is correct and in good condition before safely packing them for delivery.

If you receive an item that is damaged, please let us know as soon as your order has arrived by sending through your order number and photos of the damaged book(s) to hello@bookgrocer.com.

We only accept damage claims within 7 days from the date you have received your order.

✓ The following DO qualify as damage

  • Rips greater than 10mm
  • Dented or crushed corners greater than 10mm
  • Missing pages
  • Pages incorrectly printed
  • Torn spine
  • Water damage
  • Dirty or sticky residue that cannot be removed
  • Punctures
  • Stained or discoloured

✖︎ The following DON’T qualify as damage

  • Remainder marks (black or red texta mark on the side or bottom)
  • Deckled edges (these are special edges that are sought out by book collectors)
  • Shelf wear (minor dulling and fading)
  • Light scratches
  • Removable dust marks
  • Bent pages
  • Small or 'lightly printed' font

You may be asked for additional photos of the issue or to attempt an at-home fix for a cosmetic issue with the damaged book.

If your damage claim is accepted and we are unable to provide a replacement, a partial refund or future discount code will be offered.

Shipping costs will not be refunded.

Shipping costs for any returns or exchanges are at the customer's expense.

All damage claims are carefully assessed by our team before coming to a solution. All replacements, exchanges, and refunds are up to the discretion of our team.
