Ordering through the book grocer was very smooth. The book grocer is my favourite book store ever that all my friends know that it’s my little sanctuary. It was very easy to “click n collect” the book and I was glad I could pick it up from my local book grocer store.
Thrilled with this purchase. Price very good and delivery prompt. Would recommend Book Grocer to anyone who loves books. M.Addy.
Staff answered all my questions about the book. Book was carefully packaged (collectors rejoice!) and detailed tracking info provided. Will be ordering from Book Grocer again!
Written by a well respected historian, Dr Timothy Venning, this speculative book discusses the role of personalities as well as the social and geographic events which led up to the collapse of the ancient Roman Empire. To quote Dr Venning,”individuals are not always powerless to shape the outcome of major events. One persons’s actions can alter the course of history…”
The useful maps are valuable in contemplating the questions arising from this book. A lesson for our times, perhaps.
Enjoying reading this book! The Book Grocer was extremely helpful in sourcing books by this author and hopefully I can use them again!
It was bought as a birthday gift for a friend who loves the world game . He was very happy with my choice , thank you
John Brack is widely regarded as one of Australia’s most acute and formidable artists. His works range from social commentary to nudes and still life. His outstanding portraits are perhaps not as well known. This impressive slim volume of 61 pages (29cm x24cm) was produced as the catalogue for the exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery of Brack’s portraits held in 2007. It still packs a punch. There is a number of his self portraits in oil and charcoal; and also oil and charcoal portraits of significant figures in Australian art including Ursula Hoff, John Perceval and Fred Williams. As good as they are nothing matches his portrait of Dame Edna Everage. (Perversely it did not win the 1969 Archibald Prize). The catalogue is full of many gems including delightful drawings of his four daughters. The catalogue has contributions by Andrew Sayers, the Director of the National Portrait Gallery; Professor Sasha Grishin author of the two volume definitive study of John Brack; and Helen Brack who was Brack’s wife and constant supporter. This volume would be a very welcome addition to the bookshelf of anyone interested in Australian art and culture.
Well written & very interesting, not just facts & figures but told as a family history bent.
A well put togeter book and a good read have ordered the follow up , highly recomended Bill Starke Canoelands
Another Kind of Eden. CT’s. However it is one of those Burke halucinatory places that he eventually enters.
It is very handy for my research in to ancient history, and excellent in being able to tell me who was using what symbols, and where they originated from.
Being able to ‘decode’ ancient symbols and metaphors helps me identify and track down mysterious people in history, and where they lived.
