The real Book Grocer

 

Each year, we have become aware that there are some fake websites impersonating Book Grocer, offering our Advent Book Boxes at a low price. These are powered by Instagram, Facebook, TikTok reels and ads. 

If you clicked an Instagram or Facebook ad and made a purchase for eg an Advent box for 30USD, this is a fake order.   

Book Grocer only has one website - bookgrocer.com - and while we do ship internationally, we do not have 'an overseas website'. 

Your order with us is legitimate if: 

  • your order was placed on bookgrocer.com, not any other site
  • your order number begins with #S and has 6 numbers, eg #S301234
  • your order confirmation email and all emails you receive from Book Grocer are sent from an @bookgrocer.com email address
  • you paid between AUD180 for an Advent box
  • your credit card statement says CASTLEBOOKS or BOOKGROCER

You have unfortunately been scammed if:

  • you paid USD30 for an Advent box
  • your order confirmation comes from eg dawneng-live.com or mailshopline.com email address
  • your order number has 4 digits, not 6 and does not start with #S
  • you have clicked a link in an order confirmation or tracking email and get a dead website, or a tracking link goes to 17track.net (a known fake tracking site)
  • your credit card statement says ATHLETSHOES or some other name

If any email or website directs you to a "CSHelp desk", please do not provide them with any more of your personal details. This is also part of their scam and ‘opening a dispute’ with them will not do anything. 

What to do if you have been scammed:

  • You should initiate a chargeback with your bank or credit card immediately.
  • We would be grateful if you could email any Instagram/Facebook or other website links through to us (hello@bookgrocer.com) to support our efforts to get these sites and ads taken down.
  • If you see a reel or ad like this again, that isn't from the legitimate @bookgrocer instagram or @thebookgrocer Facebook account, please report it

Thanks to your assistance, we have already had several domain names disabled that were being used for this scam and we hope they will move on soon to other targets.  

We operate exclusively through one website, and all company emails, including order confirmations, will come from our single domain:

Always verify that the URL matches the official site exactly. Scammers often use slightly altered URLs to trick customers.

Cross-check emails and contact numbers with those listed on the company’s official website. Scammers may use similar-looking email addresses to appear legitimate.

Watch for Poor Grammar or Design
