Melbourne, Australia – August 2026 – The connection between books and screen adaptations has never been stronger. For many book lovers, reading the book before watching the adaptation has become part of the fun. Others head straight to the original novel after finishing a series and wanting more of the story. In many cases, a successful adaptation increases book sales exponentially, with The Guardian has found that interest in Homer’s The Odyssey has surged since the announcement of Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation. Readers also enjoy comparing characters and plot changes between the page and the screen. This growing trend has helped create a new kind of reading experience.
Adapted books continue to dominate bestseller lists around the world. Readers are revisiting favourite stories and also discovering books they may never have picked up if they hadn’t first seen a trailer, a recommendation or a viral conversation online. Social media has also played a major role, with BookTok, Bookstagram and online fan communities generating excitement around upcoming adaptations.
