When Madelaine Duke returned, after the war, to the Continent where she had spent much of her childhood, her mission was a purely private one. Her brother Tony had disappeared in Germany at the outbreak of the war and Madelaine gave up her work as an atom physicist in Britain and joined the Allied Commission in Austria as an interpreter in order to search for him. She found Tony, but another great mission lay ahead of her. To the 28 year-old girl was given the task of tracing Hans Hassler, German Atom Scientist, fanatical ex-S.S. Officer, and two of his colleagues whose knowledge would prove vital to the Russians. It was a hunt which brought to real life all the suspense of thriller-fiction as Madelaine played her taut and tricky game of cat-and-mouse with her Russian opposite numbers. Illustrated with B&W photographs.
