Tom BrownÕs Schooldays is a novel by English author Thomas Hughes, first published by Macmillan in 1857. It has been reprinted many times since then, with different editions having different numbers of pages. The edition published by Macmillan in 1979 has 308 pages. The novel is based on HughesÕs own experiences at Rugby School in Warwickshire, England. It follows the life and adventures of Tom Brown, a young boy who attends Rugby under the headship of Dr Thomas Arnold, a reforming schoolmaster. The novel depicts TomÕs struggles with schoolwork, sports, bullying, friendship, religion, and morality.
