This book, Photoelasticity For Designers: International Series Of Monographs In Mechanical Engineering - Volume 2, is written by R.B. Heywood and published by Pergamon Press in 1969. The basis of the protoelastic method, its usefulness for design purposes, and the techniques, including those recently introduced, which enable stresses and stress distributions in engineering parts of complicated shape to be ascertained are here described. The versatility of the method is demonstrated by its use for conventional two-dimensional analysis, for three-dimensional analysis by the now - established frozen - stress technique, the measurement of surface stresses in components and structures by the birefringent coating technique, and techniques for the improvement of designs for the achievement of optimum strength/weight ratios. The book provides a correlation of available information on photoelasticity, including a comprehensive classified bibliography. It forms a most useful tool for the designer and an extremely valuable reference book for the photoelastician. First Edition. Condition: Good. Dust jacket: Fair with a small rip on front of the DJ but otherwise pages are clean & intact and not marred by notes or highlighting.
