The Flight and The Song is a fiction novel written by S.M.C. & L.M. Anderson and published by Chatto & Windus in 1946. This historical novel is set in sixteenth-century Devon at the time of the persecution of the great religious houses, two of which, Buckfast Abbey and Cannonsleigh Priory, form an important part of the background of the story. A country boy and a girl from the same village enter the life of the cloister, both believing in its sanctity with simple, undeviating faith. They leave behind a friend, Robin Hack-worthy, who also has a sense of vocation in his affinity to nature, and who is rumoured to be possessed by supernatural powers. All three suffer from persecution-_the monk and the nun at the hands of Thomas Cromwell's agents, Robin as the result of local superstition. Finally, when the Abbey and the Priory have been closed, Robin is caught in a wave of hatred, and the story culminates with a last manifestation of his incomprehensible power. First Edition. Ex- Library - stickers are affixed to front pastedown and free endpaper. Condition: Very good with some tanning and foxing. Dust jacket: Very good with general shelf wear. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. May also contain a few markings such as an owner's name, short gifter's inscription or light stamp.
