Tirant Lo Blanc is a novel by Joanot Martorell and Mart’ Joan de Galba, written in the 15th century. It is considered to be one of the first modern novels, and one of the masterpieces of Catalan literature. It tells the story of Tirant, a knight who travels from England to Constantinople, where he becomes a hero and a lover. He fights against the Turks, the Greeks, and the Mongols, and wins the heart of the emperorÕs daughter, Carmesina. The novel is a mix of romance, adventure, satire, and realism, and influenced writers such as Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare. The novel is translated by David H. Rosenthal, and was published by Schocken Books in 1984, and has 642 pages. Map endpapers.
