The Story Teller is a novel by Mario Vargas Llosa, one of the most acclaimed and influential Latin American writers. It is a complex and ambitious work that explores the themes of identity, culture, and storytelling. It alternates between two narratives: one of a Peruvian writer who tries to find out the fate of his friend, who disappeared in the Amazon jungle to join an indigenous tribe; and the other of the friend himself, who becomes a storyteller for the tribe, and recounts their myths and legends. The novel is translated by Helen Lane, and was published by Farrar Straus Giroux in 1989, and has 246 pages.
