Roughing It is a memoir by Mark Twain, first published in 1872. It is a semi-autobiographical account of TwainÕs experiences as a young man in the American West, from 1861 to 1867. He describes his adventures as a miner, a reporter, a lecturer, and a traveler, as well as his encounters with various characters, such as Brigham Young, Horace Greeley, and Artemus Ward. The book is illustrated by Noel Sickles, and has an introduction by Edward Wagenknecht. It was published by The Heritage Press in 1972, and has 445 pages.
