The Border is a novel by Elaine Feinstein, a British poet and novelist, that is set in the Soviet Union during the Stalinist era. The novel follows the lives of Anna, a Jewish poet, and Leo, a dissident journalist, who fall in love and try to escape the oppressive regime. The novel is based on the true story of Osip Mandelstam and Nadezhda Mandelstam, two of the most prominent figures of the Russian literature. The novel was published by St. Martin's/Marek Book in 1984 as the first US edition.
