This book is based on the private journals of Edward H. Cree, a surgeon in the Royal Navy who travelled to many parts of the world, including ten years in the Far East, where he witnessed land and sea actions in the First Opium War of 1839-42. The book also contains his watercolour paintings of the places and people he encountered. The book was edited and introduced by Michael Levien, a former naval officer and historian. The book was published by Webb and Bower in 1981 and has 276 pages.
