Author: Jack Lindsay
Format: Paperback
Number of Pages: 196
This biographical collection of Jack Lindsay's many and varied writings includes his letters, poems, biography and translations. It examines the influence on him of his father, Norman Lindsay and his rebellion against family and country. Jack Lindsay's father was an artist and writer, and together they helped build a movement that pushed Australia towards a universal approach to art, while rejecting national enthusiasms. Born in Melbourne in 1900, after a disturbed and rebellious childhood in the brash Brisbane of the early 1900s, Jack Lindsay launched into the rumbustious 1920s, and later helped found the Fanfrolico Press in Bloomsbury, leading a peculiarly Australian invasion of English culture. He lived in England most of his life, writing biography, fiction and criticism. His contribution to Australian literature was recognized in 1981 when he was awarded membership of the Order of Australia.
