Number of Pages: 72

This book aims to analyse the growing spatial polarisation of the British electorate and to describe the trend in voting patterns over the eight years of Conservative rule from 1979-1987, looking at their extent, causes and implications. It also displays the geography of voting on cartograms, giving the book in part the appearance of an atlas. The information is based largely on the results of three electoral surveys conducted at the time of the general elections for the BBC by Gallup, integrating these with census and electoral data to provide insights into the emerging geography of British elections.
