The Hudson company is perhaps best known for its collier fleet that became a familiar sight loading coal in ports in the north-east of England for delivery to utility companies in the south-east. It later expanded and its dry cargo ships appeared in other trades. Tankers of various sizes were also in the fleet. A link with the Norwegian Mosvold company brought several specialised ships into company management along with bulkers and tweendeckers. The book includes a detailed fleet list of all owned and managed vessels.
