An Interview with the Bookfluencer: @tessandherbooks

You might be asking, what on earth is a Bookfluencer? Easy, they’re book lovers that share their reads on social media platforms including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
This week, we’re sharing our interview with the lovely Tess from @tessandherbooks. As one of the selected members of the Book Grocer rep team, you can be sure that Tess has expressed her love for books beautifully through her platform!

Hi Tess, welcome to Interview with the Bookfluencer! Let's start easy: when did you start reading?

As a child I always read. I actually used to always play with my books down the hallway and always begged my mum to buy me books when we were out. They’ve always been my safe space and a place to escape.

As a team of book lovers, we can relate to that! What’s your favourite genre?

Literary fiction for sure! I love a book that makes me think.

Which author would you recommend people who don’t tend to read that genre, start with?

Toni Morrison. Her work is incredible. I’ve never read books as painful yet so beautifully written. Her use of metaphors are just amazing and I aim to read all of her work.

That sounds like an author who deserves a top spot! We’ll definitely be adding her to our To Be Read list! I think we have a few of Toni Morrison’s books available as well, which is pretty awesome.

Now about your bookstagram… we love the soft aesthetics you go for on your feed. It really drew us to your account! Where do you draw your inspiration from?

My environment! To create content it needs to be accessible to me and I’ve always loved a cottage core/antique environment so that’s what I use! Makes me feel cosy and I hope it makes others feel that way too!

Books in bec

That translates to sound advice! We agree that you don’t need to buy things or change your location to have the perfect bookstagram account, it’s easiest to use what you have around you. Has your platform changed your perspective on books in any way?

It’s made me try many new genres I never would have, which I love!

What’s your favourite part about being on your platform? (Other than being a rep for Book Grocer, we assume)

Being able to connect with other readers and encourage people to start reading!

And finally… what’s the best advice you could give to those who really want to start their own bookstagram account?

Just start, don’t wait for a perfect moment because there won’t be one.

Loved these answers, Tess. We sincerely enjoyed getting to know you a little more, it’s so great getting to work with you for this Rep Term!

Thank you!
