Among the most spectacular creatures to grace the natural world, the birdwing butterflies reign supreme — and Birdwing Butterflies of the World stands as the definitive scientific and visual record of this extraordinary group of insects. Bernard D'Abrera's landmark work catalogues every known species of birdwing butterfly, from the iconic *Ornithoptera alexandrae* of Papua New Guinea to the resplendent *Troides* of Southeast Asia, presenting meticulous taxonomic detail alongside breathtaking full-colour photography that captures the iridescent magnificence of these giants of the lepidopteran world. Beyond its role as a rigorous reference work, this volume occupies a singular place in natural history publishing, representing decades of dedicated field research and specimen study across the Indo-Pacific region. D'Abrera writes with the precision of a committed naturalist and the passion of a true devotee of his subject, producing a text that speaks equally to the academic entomologist and the serious amateur collector. Published by Lansdowne Press in Melbourne, this is a book that transforms the act of observation into something approaching reverence — leaving the reader with an acute awareness of just how much beauty remains at stake in the world's vanishing tropical forests.
