This memoir consists of incidents that Singer remembers from his childhood in Warsaw, where his father was a rabbi in a poor quarter of the city. Through their rooms at 10 Krochmaina Street passed a variety of types who came to see the elder Singer for ruling on points of Jewish law and for personal advice and comfort. It shows a situation that could only have existed in the years before the deluge of the World War I. Singer has written many novels including "The Family Moscat", "Satan in Goray" and "A Friend of Kafka".
