When Judge Sidney Piggott gets kicked to death in his chambers at the Four Courts in Dublin, few tears are shed. Neither Jim Quilligan nor Molly Powers, the Dublin police detectives assigned to the case, are satisfied to pin the murder on a missing youth whom many suspect without more reasons. Quilligan gets a colleague to question his informant and Molly does some sleuthing in the arts library because of the judge's questionable dealing in paintings.
