Peter Alander, a flawed copy, and Caryl Hatzis, an original, were on a survey mission that ended in disaster fleet of space vehicles, the Spinners, arrived with gifts of amazing technology and information, but the whole colony is destroyed by an alien species, the Starfish, within days.
