On the face of it, friends Leah Cavendish and Nora O'Brian have little in common. Nora is a domestic and Leah the daughter of a wealthy haulage magnate, but both are isolated members of the opulent Cavendish household and, spirited young women, they instantly recognise kindred spirits in each other.
