When Hannah Legare was eleven, her adored father, Buzz - notoriously charming doctor and family man - went fishing in the mouth of the Charleston harbour. Two days later, his boat was found drifting, holding nothing but his fishing rod and his waiting Labrador retriever. Twenty years later Hannah's new life in San Francisco is unravelling. Her marriage is on the rocks, her business is bankrupt, and she still can't shake her conviction that Buzz must be alive. After a disastrous - not to mention near-fatal - attempt to win her husband back, Hannah returns to her mother's Charleston home to reluctantly 'rest up', and she finds herself once again tugging at the loose threads of her father's disappearance.
