The ever-changing look of Versace's couture as seen--and modeled--by the kings, queens, and jokers of rock & roll. Gianni Versace suffuses his world with rock and roll. He wants to rock all the old boundaries that get in the way of people's freedom to rule their own lives... His observation that rock and rollers are the new royalty is really a nod to each of us that a crown is something you're not born with, but something you earn... Ingrid Sischy Born in 1946, Gianni Versace presented his first fashion collection in Milan in 1978 and his first Atelier collection in Paris in 1989. He has won a Stanley Award, two Cutty Sarks, and the C.F.D.A. Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. He first designed theater costumes in 1983 for La Scala in Milan, and has since collaborated with Robert Wilson, Maurice Bejart, Roland Petit, and Twyla Tharp on operas and ballets around the world. In September 1996 Gianni Versace participated in the first Biennale d'Arte e Moda in Florence with Roy Lichtenstein. His clothes have been the subject of a 1992 exhibition at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, and are in the collections of The Victoria and Albert Museum in London and The Metropolitan Museum in New York. His previous four books are available from Abbeville Press.
