For Gregor McLeod - 72-year-old retired schoolmaster, 6-handicap golfer and Rotary Club socialist -the death of his much-loved wife comes as a terrible blow. And yet, life goes on, and there is still much romance to be found. The only question is with whom? The wealthy village widow Susan? Mad Millie or embittered Chrissie? The powerful, ex-Hollywood starlet Mrs Birkenberger (aka Linda Blossom)? Or her beautiful, husband-murdering house maid? From the west coast of Scotland to California - mixing wit with wisdom - Robin Jenkins has produced another great piece of fiction. Eminently readable, extremely funny and genuinely insightful.
