In May 1968, Mike Towers was conscripted into the Australian Army and found himself sent to Vietnam without volunteering and against regulations. The next 24 months irrevocably changed his life. This volume is based on his experiences of unwillingly training for and serving in the Vietnam War and the aftermath in which he suffered from the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Despite the seriousness of his situation and his experiences, the humour of the "Aussie digger" pervades the book. The author offers a humorous yet compassionate portrait of Australian soldiers and the total irreverence which helped them cope with the rigours of war and the reality of their return home.
